In today’s episode I take you through what nasolabial lines are, how they appear and what can be done to treat them.
NASOLABIAL FOLDS
These are those folds that run alongside the sides of the nose to the corner of the mouth. Their presence is normal, however with time, they may deep leaving a saggy appearance.
HOW TO TREAT
There are several options that may be explored.
Non-permanent dermal fillers can be strategically used in this area to reduce the volume deficit.
The filler is strategically placed along the fold bearing in mind the underlying facial anatomy - including the facial artery. Treatment of the piriform fossa may also be included which lies at the root of the fold. Typically a needle or cannula may be used to reduce risks.
Other methods of treatment include fat transfers, thread lifts or face lifts.

In today’s episode I take you through what marionette lines are, how they appear and what can be done to treat them.
MARIONETTE LINES
The name originates from marionette string puppets who have dark lines from the corners of the mouth to the jaw allowing them to move their mouth.
As we age, we loose volume in this area and hence lines appear more prominent.
HOW TO TREAT
There are several options that may be explored.
Non-permanent dermal fillers can be strategically used in this area to reduce the volume deficit.
Another option is to consider anti-wrinkle treatment to the muscles of the lower face - DAO. These muscles pull the corner of the mouth down and out. By temporarily inactivating this muscle, the corners of the mouth settle in an upwards position. It’s important to understand that if the crease lines of the marionettes are very deep, anti-wrinkle to this area is unlikely to change this appearance. Very often dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatment to the corners of the mouth are done in conjunction with one another.
A final method to consider is a mini face lift or a permanent surgical procedure to lift and pull back the lower face.

Mouth Wrinkles? How to Treat Marionette Lines with Dermal Filler
Look sad but don’t feel it? 🙃
In this treatment we’ve used 1ml of dermal filler to replenish the structure of the oral commissures.
As you can see there is visible improvement, with a noticeable reduction in the lines.
Treatment time is 20-30 minutes with no down time. Inflammation settles after a few days with optimal results seen at 2 weeks. You can expect treatment to last from 6 to 9 months.
The great thing about dermal filler is that it can be combined with other treatments, so after the 2 week period for the results to fully settle in, we can consider a top up of dermal filler or even anti-wrinkle treatment to further target the area if desired.
