In today’s episode I take you behind the scenes at a medical and dental centre on the Gold Coast, Australia. This medical centre caters for all your medical needs. It has a fully functioning treatment room that can provide for skin excisions, vaccinations, cosmetic medicine and PRP injections. The General Practitioner consult rooms are spacious and accomodate all aspects of medicine, from a tissue to cry on to a cervical smear. Not only is this, there is an in house dental lab that produces dentures, as well as a dentist for all your dental needs, I even get my teeth checked.
I talk to the brains behind this fusion medical centre, Dr Nidhi, and find out how she came up with the idea, the challenges of running a successful medical centre and how she unwinds at the end of the day.

Join me in part 2 of the series ‘A Day in the Life of a General Practitioner in Surfers Paradise’. In this episode I talk through how to manage time and staff efficiently as well as eliciting the all important information from my patients. Very often patients present with a hidden agenda, which if probed sensitively and carefully can illicit a deeper problem. A typical example that I find is those who present for a repeat prescription but may often be suffering from depression and find it hard to talk about. This is a skill that is acquired and relies on having patience and a listening ear, a skill that I have honed throughout the years.
Also in the episode, I talk about the importance of having regular health checks such as sexual health screens after, before or during a relationship. These infections should be detected and treated early, as some sexually transmitted infections such as Chlamydia, may have no symptoms and can cause fertility issues in females later down the line.
As you will see, my day presents me with a wide number of presentations and procedures which I find exhilarating and makes me proud to be a family doctor serving my local community.
