It’s the latest craze that has all the celebs signing up, from Kim Kardashian to Kylie Minogue. But what is it and how does it work?
The ‘Vampire facial’ uses Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), which has been around for almost 20 years. PRP is used in a number of medical conditions such as hair thinning, muscle and tendon injuries, knee pain from osteoarthritis and of course for cosmetic purposes including the vampire facial.
In our blood we have a number of different cells including red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Platelets contain clotting and growth factors which once activated, stimulate the inflammatory cascade and healing process.
