This World Health Day is dedicated to celebrating the work of nurses and midwives around the world. 🌏
Throughout my career nurses and midwives have always played an integral part to looking after patients. Not only do they look after patients but they also look after us doctors too! Back when I was a junior doctor I had some fond memories of being bleeped by the nurses on a night shift to attend to patients and after seeing the patients, the friendly nursing staff would always offer me a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Thank you for your ongoing high quality of care and respect that you provide us all.
As a general practitioner, a lot of collaboration with other health professionals goes on behind the scenes. From speaking to the local pharmacist about which is the best medication to offer you, to speaking with hospital specialists about referrals and management plans.
Whilst it can be time consuming on a busy day, I believe it is an important part of the job to provide you with the most comprehensive medical care helping you to achieve your health goals.
