It’s time to catch up.

Ladies, this week is National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week. With the recent world events many have put their own health on the backseat and delayed their cervical screening.

Cervical screening changed in December 2017. The new test is more accurate at detecting HPV which can lead to cell changes in the cervix. Once you have had the new test and it is normal you will only need one every 5 years.

So girls, what are you waiting for? Together we can build on the WHO’s vision where cervical cancer is eliminated as a public health concern by 2030. Book in your screening today. For more information about eligibility head over to accf.org.au.

Take care and stay healthy 😘

When was your last check up?

This month is breast cancer awareness month. Breast cancer can affect both men and women. Early detection is imperative for better outcomes. It’s therefore very important to regularly self examine and look for any changes, such as skin changes, nipple discharge, lumps or pain to name a few.

If you aren’t up to date with your breast screening then please do make this a priority. Screening save lives.

If you have any concerns or simply want to chat about your own risks, please do pop by in clinic.

Take care and stay healthy 😘

Are you aged between 50-74? Are you up to date with your breast cancer screening? 📣

If the answer is no to the above then it’s time to get screening.

According to the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare, only half of women in the target age group are taking up their two yearly free mammograms to test for breast cancer.

Breast screening is important for the early detection of breast cancer. The earlier breast cancer is detected the sooner it can be treated with more favourable outcomes. Breast screening also helps to provide women with reassurance following a normal result.

Breast screening is performed using a machine called a mammogram that pushes pressure onto the breasts whilst images are taken. This usually lasts for 10 seconds at a time.

These images are then analysed by a specialist doctor and the results are sent to yourself and your GP. You will then be put on a register to remind you to return every 2 years until the age of 74.

Some symptoms that you should report to your doctor include, changes in the skin, noticing a lump, pain or nipple discharge. If you are concerned about any of the above or are just unsure of how to examine your own breasts please pop by and see me in clinic.

Take care and stay healthy 😘

It’s Kidney Health Week!

Did you know that 1 in 3 Australians are at an increased risk of kidney disease?

90% of kidney function can be lost without experiencing symptoms, so most people are unaware that they are affected.

But why are the kidneys so important?

We are born with 2 kidneys that are vital in maintaining your general health and wellbeing. Your kidneys filter the blood that passes through your body and remove any excess fluid and unwanted chemicals through your urine. Your kidneys are also responsible for regulating blood pressure and activating vitamin D.

What symptoms should I look out for?

Symptoms may include; high blood pressure, a change in the amount and frequency of urine passed, blood in your urine, tiredness, puffiness in your legs and shortness of breath just to name a few.

What is my risk of developing kidney disease?

Patients who suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or have a family history of kidney problems are at an increased risk.

Kidney.org.uk have created a fantastic quick & easy test to check your risk of developing kidney disease.

Don’t forget that if you do have any concerns about your kidneys a simple blood test will give you a good idea of how well they are working.

How can I keep my kidneys healthy?

Kidneys love water, so make sure you’re drinking enough to keep yourself hydrated especially in hotter, more humid climates.

Make sure you reduce salty and sugary foods as these can lead to fluid retention.

If you are concerned or have any questions drop by and see me in clinic.

Take care & stay healthy 😊
