Quitting before the age of 30 reduces your risk of lung cancer by 90% compared to someone who continues to smoke throughout their life.

After 15 years of not smoking, your stroke risk has reduced to close to that of a person who has never smoked and within 2-5 years of quitting, your risk of getting a heart attack and stroke also drops significantly.

Help is available from your local GP, your pharmacist and the Quitline.

World Mental Health Day ❤️

During my working week I spend a lot of time dealing with mental health concerns. From anxiety, to depression to eating disorders amongst many others. Mental health is a serious and real issue. One in five Australians aged 16-85 experience a mental illness in any year. Often people may be too shy or worried about judgment to come forward and seek help, however, there is ample support if you need it. Your general practitioner can facilitate psychological therapy sessions, medication or even just regular support, because a problem shared is a problem halved.

If you or someone you know is struggling please pop by and see me in clinic for further help.

Did you know that when you stop smoking a number of positive impacts happen to your body? Within 24 hours blood levels of Carbon Monoxide are dramatically reduced, meaning more oxygen can reach vital organs. With long term smoking cessation over 10 years, the risk of lung cancer is less than half that of person who continues to smoke.

One of my favourite ways of relaxing is visiting the sea. Each time I go to the beach I always take 10 deep breaths. Not only does it allow me to fully expand my lungs with oxygen and the other great elements that sea air has to offer such as iodine and magnesium, but it also allows me to relax and unwind.

We’re so lucky to have such great amenities in Australia, so when you’re at the beach next time, why not give it a try.
