Not the mosquitos. As the days get longer, the nights become warmer, weโre not the only ones enjoying the summer climate.
Here are some tips to help you enjoy a bite free summer:
- Remove any stagnant buckets of rain water
- Clean and dispose of palm fronds as mossies like to breed here
- Keep lawns mowed
- Use a mosquito repellant safely according to instructions
- Wear light coloured clothing
- Stay indoors during dusk and dawn
- Try a natural repellent such as citronella oil
Sometimes mosquitos can cause infections to humans, so itโs important to see your doctor if you are suffering from symptoms such as muscular pains, rash, headaches or a fever.
Now that summer has hit our Aussie shores weโre spending more time outdoors. Whether weโre hanging out at barbecues or hiking on the beach itโs important to keep cool to avoid heat related illnesses.
Here are a few tips to keep you safe this summer:
- Keep hydrated, carry a water bottle with you at all times.
- Keep meals light and healthy, such as salads, cold pastas or fruit salads.
- Keep your body and head cool through protective clothing and cold drinks
- Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 regularly when out in the sun
- Keep your house cool by closing windows and curtains and turning on fans or air conditioning if you have this.
If you have any concerns about the heat do pop in to see your local doctor for more advice.
With summer well and truly in full swing make sure you always remain sun smart.
Weโre very fortunate that in this part of the world we have glorious sunshine but remember the UV index is at an all time high with average readings over 10. Exposure to such high levels can lead to ageing of the skin, which means wrinkles, but more importantly it increases your chance of developing nasty skin cancer. So this summer, stay sun smart and regularly apply sunblock at least spf 30+ as well as popping on a hat, sunnies and protective clothing.
With temperatures hotting up and public holidays in sight, what better way to spend the summer outside by the beach, catching up with a few friends over a barbie or getting your adrenaline fix at the theme parks.

Severe Heat Warning โ๐ฅโ After the past week of intense flooding and rain, the skies are opening up to give us Queenslanders a hot end to summer. Temperatures are set to soar and the UV index will be hitting up to 14, so itโs time to get sun smart.
Be sure to slip on sun protective clothing, slop on sunblock spf 30+, slap on a broad brimmed hat, seek shade and slide on wrap around glasses.
And remember to stay out of the sun during peak times from 10am to 3pm to reduce your risk of sun exposure and skin cancer in the future.
